Summer Camp 2018

31/7/2018

Solar ESU has just returned from another successful summer camp.
This year we went to Gilwell Park, just outside London.
Activities included; A hike, multi group water fight, day trip to London, Zip wire, white water rafting, Solar Challenge, mixed with lots of silly Solar fun an plenty of chilling.

Here are a few photos  to look at.

Code of Conduct and Frisbee Golf

14/5/2018

Every couple of years it is important that the whole group sits down to review our Code of Conduct.
This set of rules helps to ensure the smooth operation of the Unit and applies to all of us equally.

The Explorers and leaders broke into small groups to discuss the types of rules we should have and then had a discussion at the end. The code of conduct will be posted here shortly.

Although important writing a code of conduct is not the most interesting idea so we decided to have a round of Frisbee/disc golf.

We set up 5 holes on the Green and used tables from the hall as obstacles. If your Frisbee landed on concrete it counted as falling in the water and you had to take a penalty, We did have score cards, but with all the Frisbee flying around I am not sure who won.

The image below might look like a mini Stonehenge but is actually  Hole 4 of our improvised Frisbee Golf course.

Pancake night

19/2/2018

We missed Shrove Tuesday /Pancake day due to half term, but never like to miss the chance to get the young people cooking.
So tonight we brought in all the cooking equipment and let them loose on pancakes.
A nice simple recipe that they could have some fun making and get a nice snack out off at the end.
Hoping for some pancakes that looked a little like this

We did not quite manage to get our pancakes to look this good, but they were at least edible and we did not set off the smoke alarm

Solar Went Skiing!

16/10/2017

This evening we went Skiing at the Gloucester Ski and Snowboard centre.
34 of us arrived and got our boots & helmets on.
We were then split into 3 groups. Expert, ok and total beginner.
22 of us were total beginners, so the poor instructors had their work cut out for them.
Thanks to the instructors all of us beginners were able to move around on the slope and ski down without falling over too many time.
The Ok people and experts seemed to be having a good time as they went zipping by.
Then all back on the mini bus for the journey home.
A good time had by all
